A Traditional Garden

Ickleton, Cambridgeshire 2024
£90,000 – £100,000

Design, Build & Maintenance Project

Completed in 2024, this Traditional Garden is a celebration of craftsmanship, heritage materials and sensitive design – a space created to sit effortlessly alongside the character and history of the client’s home. What began as an underused corner of the garden has been transformed into a timeless, tranquil focal point that feels as though it has always belonged.

One of the defining features of the project is the handcrafted dry‑stone pond, built using traditional materials to achieve a natural, enduring aesthetic. The structure is finished with Yorkstone capping, each piece hand‑bevelled by our team to create a refined edge that elevates the overall finish.

At the centre of the pond sits a beautifully weathered millstone, thoughtfully repurposed as a water feature.  Its gentle movement and soft sound bring life and atmosphere to the space, while the pond itself now supports fish and aquatic planting, adding depth, biodiversity and year‑round interest.

The surrounding planting has been carefully selected to enhance the traditional feel of the garden, offering colour, texture and seasonal variation without overwhelming the space. A collection of old stone pots complete the composition, their patina and form echoing the timeless feeling of the wider design.

This project is a testament to how careful craftsmanship and thoughtful design can create a garden full of character and tranquility. We are so happy with this project and enjoy watching it develop as our team maintain it.

From the client

Great job by all the staff at Jacq and Wills on our sizeable project. We are very happy with the end product (revised pond, landscaping and planting) . The entire team worked extremely hard and were very polite, helpful and tidy. Project ran to time over the 10 week period. We are using them for more work
