If you want to create\u00a0more interest in the winter, you may wish to consider some of the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Helleborus<\/strong> \u2014 a firm favourite that never fails to disappoint. There are\u00a0many varieties, we particularly like; \u2018niger\u2019 (Christmas rose), and \u2018x hy-bridus \u2018<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ilex (Holly)<\/strong> \u2014 especially as standards, if you make sure that they are\u00a0well-watered and fed over the spring &amp; summer you will be rewarded\u00a0with an abundance beautiful crimson berries over the holiday season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cornus (Dogwood)<\/strong> \u2014 There are many varieties, \u2018winter-fire\u2019,\u2019alba\u2019\u00a0\u2018sibirica-baton rouge\u2019 have dramatic red stems, or alternatively try Cornus sericea \u2018Flaviramea\u2019 for their olive-yellow stems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heuchera<\/strong> \u2014 Apart from the more familiar \u2018palace purple\u2019, you may consider\u00a0the pinker &amp; orange varieties of \u2018creme brulee\u2019 &amp; \u2018vienna\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hamamelis \u2013 (mollis)<\/strong> Produces extremely fragrant, yellow flowers, along bare branches. Needs well-drained\u00a0acid soil, keep in a pot and feed regularly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Euonymus fortunei \u2018Emerald \u2018n\u2019 Gold\u2019<\/strong> \u2014 this shrub is lovely and bright during\u00a0the dark winter months, it lifts a fence or a wall and is hardy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarcococca \u2014 \u2018hookeriana var. digyna\u2019<\/strong> The scent is stunning, although with\u00a0small white flowers it is as if you have a floral display in front of you.
